Heat pumps work by collecting heat from one area, filtering it into a fluid that is used as a medium of transport (refrigerant), and then expelling the heat where it is needed. With a heat pump, that means collecting the heat from the air outside your home, compressing it so it intensifies, and then carrying it inside where it radiates into the air that is proliferated through your duct network.
