Fall is just around the corner (even though it may not feel like it yet here in Dallas!) Regardless of the temperature, it’s good to be prepared for the changing season, and a good place to start is to prepare your HVAC system. Here are a few tips to keep your air conditioner working properly for seasons to come:
Clean Up Outside
While you’re doing your fall cleanup, be sure to clean up your outdoor HVAC unit. Remove any debris and check for any damage, paying mind to the unit’s fan. This will ensure proper airflow and prevent dirt of leaves from getting into the coils.
Check Your Air Filters
Dirty filters can cause a number of different problems with your HVAC, including efficiently cooling your home. Replacing the filters is an inexpensive way to avoid any unnecessary spikes in your energy bill or repair costs. The best way to keep your air conditioner ready for the next season is to change the filter before prepping it for winter.
Seal Any Leaks
Drafts increase the amount of energy your air conditioner uses to cool your home and decreases the efficiency of your unit (as well as the even cooling of each room). Seal any leaks in your ducts with aluminum tape.
Check Your Heating
Ensure that your furnace vents are unobstructed and ready to be turned on when needed. Your heating will need time to kick in.
Schedule a Maintenance Call
While you’re awaiting the first cool day of autumn, be sure to prepare your air conditioner unit for the changing temperatures. This will help prevent any unnecessary repairs in the future. The best way to make sure your HVAC is running efficiently and properly is to schedule a maintenance appointment.
