Our team doesn’t just service HVAC units — a big part of our job consists of educating our customers as well. Here are some of the most common FAQs we receive on Lennox heating and air conditioning units.
“What is Two-Stage Cooling?
Two-stage cooling is when the air conditioner and heat pump operates at two levels — high for summer and low for milder days. The lower setting or level can meet household-cooling demands 80% of the time, so a two-stage cooling unit will run for a longer period of time. This actually leads to a quieter, more efficient operation. A two-stage unit can also remove twice as much moisture in the air.
“Are All Air Filters Created Equal?”
Not exactly. The more sensitive a person is to allergens, the greater the need for a high-efficiency air filter. Residential air filters have a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) range of one to eight (eight being the most efficient). Lennox Air Filters.
“What do the Air Conditioner and Heat Pump Ratings Mean?”
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) rates the efficiency of cooling equipment — the higher the number, the more efficient the unit will be. HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is similar to SEER, but it measures the efficiency of a heat pump.
“What is the Best Thermostat to Use for my HVAC System?”
This depends on the type of equipment you have. Luckily, Lennox offers programmable thermostats designed to fit all of your needs. Lennox Comfort Controls.
“Should I Cover my HVAC System in the Fall and Winter?”
You don’t have to cover your unit — in fact, it could trap moisture and lead to major repairs. Just make sure you keep up with maintenance and regular cleanings (removing any leaves, dirt, and debris).
